St. Paul University Philippines was established in the year May 10, 1907,
as Colegio de San Pablo, by the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres,
(Sr. Agnes de Sainte Anne Couplan, Sr. Suzanne du Sacre Coeur Cran and
Sr. Jeanne de St. Louis Bourrelly, and Postulant Sr. Ste. Foy de Sacre
Coeur Sacramento and Sr. Marie Angeline Acau) who came to Cagayan Valley
upon the incitement of Bishop Dennis Dougherty. The school got its name
from Colegio Del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus in 1909, following to to Sacred
Heart of Jesus Institution (SHOJI) in 1925. St. Paul University Philippines
started in a Spanish Convento, adjacent the Cathedral, but due to the expansion
of the enrollment process and curricular formalities, the community moved to
its grounds in 1934 (where the University is situated today) which the SPC
Sisters obtained from the Dominican Order.
St. Paul University Philippines was used as a means of military garrison and
hospital of the Japanese forces in 1941. The whole complex was destroyed
during the Liberation. In 1948, the college started an initiative to be
the first Teacher-Training Institution in Cagayan Valley, as it was known
to be St. Paul College of Tuguegarao (SPCT). 1965, Conquering the challenges,
St. Paul University Philippines became the first and the foremost Catholic
University in Cagayan Valley in 1982.
After starting the initiative of global education, St. Paul University Philippines
achieved the merit of being the foremost pvt. Catholic University in Asia and the 1st pvt.
University in the Philippines to be awarded ISO 9001 Certification from TUV Rheinland
in 2000 and it is the only University granted by the (AASBI) Asian Association of Schools
of Business International in the year 2014. Moreover, while preparing for the ASEAN
Regional Integration, St. Paul University Philippines has been named as one of the
twelve schools who participated in the country for the (AIMS) ASEAN International
Mobility for Students (AIMS) programme. In July 2014, St. Paul University Philippines
was given a full ascribed status by the (IAO) International Accreditation Organization
based in the United States of America in recognition of its exceptional organizational
